We have gone through many ideas of the UI style for this game, We have gone through ideas of having the earth centered on screen and when you go into a lobby the map zoomed over the area where the map is set. So if a New York map the earth would rotate and we would zoom into Manhattan. And to go with the muliplayer design when the earth is zoomed out, popups would appear on the earth at map locations when other people in games complete an objective or get caught. But this presented many problems, such as texture scaling and how to deal with the zooming.
We also tried to use a layout similar to Anno 2070:
But in the end we have decided to go on a minimal clear layout based on the main UI from “The Last of Us”, mainly a dark background using light grey text and white when hovered or selected and centred on the left side of the screen.
